Read the article "Why memorize scripture" at the link above. Consider the reasons for scripture memorization prompted by the author. Reply to this post with your thoughts on his reasons and add insight as to whether you would edit or revise his suggestions. Perhaps you have other reasons for the importance of memorizing scripture, feel free to offer new ideas and explain your thoughts behind these.
Personally the authors 4th and 5th reason are most important. Sometimes people need to hear the word to be reminded God is there in good and bad times. I remember seeing a shirt one time that said preach the gospel at all times and when necessary use words. I feel like having scripture memorized helps you to live and act in a way that would demonstrate your knowledge and faith in God.

The verse on the bottom of the cartoon reminded me that I refereed a lacrosse game this weekend for a Christian school that had Romans 12:1 (the only reasonable response to God's love is to offer your bodies a living sacrifice) on the back on their jerseys. It was really good to see and even better to see the kids act it out.
